Unit One: Fiction/Short Stories

  • Material: "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury, "Stop the Sun" by Gary Paulsen, "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl, "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, and "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell
  • Other: Fiction Terms & TCQE introduction; Note-Taking Strategies & Active Reading Skills
  • Length: August-early October
  • Assessments: Reading Quizzes, Unit Test, & Formal Written Assignment (TCQE paragraph)

Unit Two: Poetry/Romeo and Juliet

  • Material: Various poems & Shakespearean sonnets; Romeo and Juliet full-text (iPad)
  • Other: Poetry Terms & TCQE continued practice; Argumentative Writing; Note-Taking & Active Reading
  • Length: early October-end of semester
  • Assessments: Act 1 Quiz, Acts 2&3 Quiz, Final Exam; Formal Written Assignment (3-paragraph Argumentative TCQE essay written to start second semester)

Unit Three: To Kill a Mockingbird
